Day 3--Manuel Antonio Beach!!!

Day 3 of our Costa Rican adventure began with the sounds of howler monkeys as our morning wake up call.  The sky was clear and blue and we were able to enjoy a leisurely morning of Costa Rican coffee on the patio before hitting the beach!
This was our view. . .

This was a weird hornet's nest close to the porch, too.  They would swarm in the mornings, but never were aggressive.  Made me paranoid, but they seemed pretty tame. . .

And, as promised, more spider pics. . .

Just as we were heading out for the beach, these guys showed up!  There were probably about 50 squirrel monkeys in total, and it seems our porch was in the direct path of their migration through the canopy on this particular morning.  They were really quick, and pretty shy, so I only managed to snap a couple of decent pics. . . most of which were blurrier than I would have liked.  Still quite fun to hear them jump from limb to limb as they made their way across the porch.

You can just barely see the eyes of the baby on it's mother's back in this one.  So cute. . .

The hands/feet/whatever you call them were so strangely human!  Eeeekkk!  I see where Darwin came up with his theories. . .

And check out how long their tales were. . .

We finally made it to the beach!  Warmest ocean water we have ever been in!!

Not completely sure what he's doing. . . being Trevor, I guess. . .

Someone had to stay on shore, because the monkeys and raccoons would steal your stuff if you left it unattended.  It's a rough job, but somebody had to do it. . .

I think he's summoning Poseidon. . . or Neptune. . . or whoever is the god of the deep. . .

Body surfing!!!

And somehow Trevor figured out how to jump over the waves. . .

Kaylee didn't. . .

Lots of coconuts on shore.  Kaylee is a gatherer, so she was picking them all up. . .

She has this weird obsession with mud. . . I don't know where it comes from. . .

And, just in case she wasn't completely covered, she smeared it around a little more. . .

Yep, that's exactly what it looks like she's doing.  The rule in our house is:  If dad's not laughing and mom is, it's probably inappropriate.  Needless to say, Dave wasn't laughing. . .

Whew!  Thank goodness that all got washed away!

Lunch at El Sol. . .

And of course, our new little gay friend, Luis.  We had the best time with him!  He showed Kaylee how to make the bracelets we bought from him, and he kept harassing Dave while Dave was in the dressing room trying on swim trunks.  Very funny guy, and even funnier that he gave Dave such a hard time!  I'm pretty sure Dave's still having nightmares about him. . .

That was pretty much it from the beach.  The storm clouds had begun to brew on the horizon, so we headed back to the house before the torrential rains began.

Stay Tuned. . . tomorrow:  The National Park!!!

Day 2--Alligator Bridge and Pete's Place!!

Day 2 of our Costa Rican adventure was just a leisurely trek from San Jose to the beach city of Manuel Antonio.
Funny side note:  our driver's name was Jorge Lopez. . . George Lopez in English.  Don't know why, but it struck me as particularly funny that day. . .

First stop on the drive. . . Alligator Bridge!!!  Very freaky, very high, and very intriguing.  I could not stop watching them!  I could not stop taking pictures either. . . REALLY glad I had my telephoto lens on this sucker, cuz these guys were incredible!!!

This guy was really intriguing to me with his half-eaten snout!  Very curious how he eats, or even survives out here. . .

I'm pretty sure Kaylee just wanted off this bridge. . .

Our driver scared the heck out of me when he whipped the van off the road and jumped out all excited telling us to get out!  He had somehow seen this guy perched way up high in one of the trees.  This was the only Macaw we saw the entire time we were there, thanks to good old George Lopez!

And then. . . just down the road was this little guy!  He was just hanging off an electrical wire taking a siesta.  Our first sloth of the trip!!  I was so scared he was going to fall off and land in the road!

And we finally made it to Pete's Place!  This was our home for the week.  We were met by Pete, himself, as well as Sasha and Maxwell.

Chillin' in the gigantic hammock on the front porch!

Sasha and Kaylee became very good friends on our trip.  We were sad to leave her behind. . .

This is Maxwell.  He looks very scary, but was such a sweetie!

The view of the mountains from the north-facing porch.  The clouds were covering them when we arrived (we were there during the rainy season), so you will have to stay tuned in to see the pictures of them on a clear day!

And, we made it in plenty of time to see our first sunset from Pete's Place.  They were spectacular every single night, and the novelty never wore off. . .

I absolutely LOVED that the sun set so early (it was dark by 6:00)!  Goodnight everyone. . . We'll see you again in the morning. . .
