Day 3--Manuel Antonio Beach!!!

Day 3 of our Costa Rican adventure began with the sounds of howler monkeys as our morning wake up call.  The sky was clear and blue and we were able to enjoy a leisurely morning of Costa Rican coffee on the patio before hitting the beach!
This was our view. . .

This was a weird hornet's nest close to the porch, too.  They would swarm in the mornings, but never were aggressive.  Made me paranoid, but they seemed pretty tame. . .

And, as promised, more spider pics. . .

Just as we were heading out for the beach, these guys showed up!  There were probably about 50 squirrel monkeys in total, and it seems our porch was in the direct path of their migration through the canopy on this particular morning.  They were really quick, and pretty shy, so I only managed to snap a couple of decent pics. . . most of which were blurrier than I would have liked.  Still quite fun to hear them jump from limb to limb as they made their way across the porch.

You can just barely see the eyes of the baby on it's mother's back in this one.  So cute. . .

The hands/feet/whatever you call them were so strangely human!  Eeeekkk!  I see where Darwin came up with his theories. . .

And check out how long their tales were. . .

We finally made it to the beach!  Warmest ocean water we have ever been in!!

Not completely sure what he's doing. . . being Trevor, I guess. . .

Someone had to stay on shore, because the monkeys and raccoons would steal your stuff if you left it unattended.  It's a rough job, but somebody had to do it. . .

I think he's summoning Poseidon. . . or Neptune. . . or whoever is the god of the deep. . .

Body surfing!!!

And somehow Trevor figured out how to jump over the waves. . .

Kaylee didn't. . .

Lots of coconuts on shore.  Kaylee is a gatherer, so she was picking them all up. . .

She has this weird obsession with mud. . . I don't know where it comes from. . .

And, just in case she wasn't completely covered, she smeared it around a little more. . .

Yep, that's exactly what it looks like she's doing.  The rule in our house is:  If dad's not laughing and mom is, it's probably inappropriate.  Needless to say, Dave wasn't laughing. . .

Whew!  Thank goodness that all got washed away!

Lunch at El Sol. . .

And of course, our new little gay friend, Luis.  We had the best time with him!  He showed Kaylee how to make the bracelets we bought from him, and he kept harassing Dave while Dave was in the dressing room trying on swim trunks.  Very funny guy, and even funnier that he gave Dave such a hard time!  I'm pretty sure Dave's still having nightmares about him. . .

That was pretty much it from the beach.  The storm clouds had begun to brew on the horizon, so we headed back to the house before the torrential rains began.

Stay Tuned. . . tomorrow:  The National Park!!!
